Access Bank appoints Orji as independent Non-Executive Director
Access Holdings Plc has announced the appointment of Mr. Uche Orji as an Independent Non-Executive Director of its subsidiary, Access Bank Plc. The appointment, which took effect on January 7, 2024, received the necessary approval from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
In a statement released at the weekend, Access Bank emphasized that the appointment aligns with its commitment to strengthening corporate governance practices and ensuring a diverse and experienced board.
The bank highlighted Orji’s vast expertise spanning over three decades in investment banking, technology, and finance.
Mr. Uche Orji is a renowned investment banking professional, technology entrepreneur, and finance expert. He is the Co-founder and Partner of Titangate Capital Management, an equity firm specializing in deep-tech, enterprise software, semiconductors, hardware, and artificial intelligence investments.
Additionally, he is the Founder and Director of Vitesse Africa Limited, a firm that provides investment advisory services focusing on Africa’s energy, technology, and infrastructure sectors.
Orji also holds an executive board position at Ultrasafe AI, an artificial intelligence and IT development firm with strategic partnerships with major global technology companies.
Furthermore, he serves on the Board of the Private Infrastructure Development Group in London, where he chairs the Risk Committee, demonstrating his expertise in governance and risk management.
His impressive career includes a tenure as the founding Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA). Under his leadership, NSIA played a pivotal role in managing and growing Nigeria’s sovereign wealth fund.
Orji has also held significant positions at global financial institutions, including Managing Director and Senior Analyst at UBS Securities Limited in New York, Managing Director and Head of European Technology/Semiconductor Equity Research at JP Morgan Securities in London, and Executive Director/Portfolio Manager at Goldman Sachs Asset Management in London.
Orji holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Port Harcourt and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Harvard Business School.
His extensive knowledge and leadership experience have earned him recognition as a thought leader in finance, investment, and corporate governance.
Commenting on the appointment, Mr. Paul Usoro, Chairman of Access Bank, described Orji as an outstanding professional with exceptional academic credentials, corporate experience, and boardroom expertise.
