HAPPENING NOW! Gunmen Attack Ebonyi Community, Kill 10, Injured Others
The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the tragic death of 10 people following an attack on the Amegu Nkalaha Community in Ishielu Local Government Area by unidentified gunmen.
According to police spokesperson, Joshua Ukandu, security operatives recovered 10 bodies after the violent attack. The assailants also selectively burned several houses and destroyed properties in the community.
“We are currently investigating the incident, and normalcy has returned to the area,” Ukandu stated.
Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers, armed with cutlasses and guns, struck in the early hours of Sunday, killing several residents and leaving widespread destruction.
The chairperson of Ishielu Local Government Area, Mrs. Ifeoma Agwu, revealed that authorities are still evacuating bodies and assessing the full extent of the damage.
Prof. Ndubuisi Idenyi, a resident of the community, described the attack as a tragedy, stating, “My village, Amegu Nkalaha, was attacked today by herdsmen. Many have been killed, and houses have been razed. What a black Sunday!”
He further warned that the death toll could rise as recovery efforts continue in the area, particularly in nearby farmlands. The security agencies and local authorities remain engaged in ongoing recovery operations.
The attack has left the community in shock, with both local residents and government officials working tirelessly to provide relief and restore order.
