JUST IN: Enugu Senator Clears the Air on Resignation Rumour
Senator Kelvin Chizoba Chukwu, representing Enugu East Senatorial District, has vehemently denied circulating reports suggesting he has resigned from the Labour Party to join the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP). In a statement issued by his Chief of Staff, Eneh Victor, the senator labeled the report as "false" and accused its creators of orchestrating a deliberate misinformation campaign to mislead the public.
“This letter is fake in its entirety,” Eneh stated, dismissing the purported resignation letter that had begun circulating in various media platforms. The letter claimed that Senator Chukwu had resigned from the Labour Party, citing internal party issues and a shift towards ZLP. However, Eneh clarified that such claims were baseless and part of an ongoing plot to discredit the senator.
According to the statement, the letter in question did not meet the standards expected of official communication from Senator Chukwu. Eneh described the document as a "handiwork of mischief-makers and enemies of the senator" who, he suggested, were threatened by his rising political influence and achievements.
“This is yet another example of desperate political propaganda intended to undermine his position and create discord within the party,” the statement continued.
Eneh went further to remind the public that the senator has consistently been a loyal and active member of the Labour Party, refuting any suggestion of a political shift. The statement also included a poignant reminder of the personal losses Senator Chukwu has endured, referencing the tragic murder of his elder brother, Barrister Oyibo Chukwu, in 2024. Eneh suggested that the ongoing smear campaign was linked to those responsible for the murder, who he alleged were using media channels to attack the senator’s reputation.
“It’s not the first time that Senator Chukwu has been the target of false reports,” Eneh recalled, referring to a previous incident in November 2024. At that time, a fake suspension letter circulated, purporting to announce Chukwu’s expulsion from the Labour Party. The letter had also been disproven when the alleged author, a prominent party member, publicly denied any involvement.
In an effort to investigate the origin of the current false report, Senator Chukwu’s office has identified one Onyema Edeh from Isi-Uzo Local Government Area as the individual who initially shared the fabricated resignation letter on local WhatsApp platforms, from where it spread further.
The senator’s office has already taken steps to address the issue, submitting a formal petition to the relevant security agencies to track down and prosecute those responsible for the forgery. Eneh expressed concern that these malicious actors may have been using forged documents to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
“We are worried that those behind this fake letter may have been using the senator’s forged signature and letterhead to engage in fraudulent activities,” Eneh warned, urging the public to remain vigilant and disregard the false reports.
In closing, Senator Chukwu’s office reassured the people of Enugu East and his supporters that he remains firmly committed to the Labour Party and will continue to work for their welfare. The senator’s office called for calm, emphasizing that the security agencies are already on the case and assured that justice would be served.
