BREAKING: Fire Engulfs Hotel at Airport Road, Destroys Properties Worth Millions

 


A massive fire has engulfed Ibis Hotel along Airport Road in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, destroying properties worth millions of naira.

The cause of the fire remains unclear at the time of this report. However, several vehicles and valuables have already been lost to the raging inferno.

Eyewitnesses fear that if urgent intervention does not arrive, the fire may spread to nearby businesses along the road.

Disturbingly, officials of the fire service have yet to arrive at the scene, leaving staff and customers scrambling for safety as they attempt to salvage what they can.

In a ruling delivered on Wednesday, Inyang Ekwo, the presiding judge, held that the applicant, Edo Civil Society Organisations (EDOSCO), lacked the legal right to institute the suit on Ukpo’s behalf. Ekwo held that the provision of article 3 (e) of the preamble to the fundamental rights (enforcement procedure) rules, 2009 (FREPR 2009), under which EDOSCO filed the suit, cannot be said to have granted any person without legal personality to sue or be sued in the court. Tragedy struck in Nsukka, Enugu State, as two persons were reportedly killed today, Tuesday, 24th of September 2024, in Nsukka Town in separate incidents involving the notorious Oriokpa masquerades, whose violent activities have continued to instill fear in the local communities.
