JUST IN: Tension In Rivers State As Sole Administrator Cancels All Pending Contracts, Orders Refunds

In a major setback for Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s administration, the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral (Rtd.) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, has ordered the immediate cancellation of all pending procurement and tender processes undertaken by Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

The decision follows the Supreme Court's judgment upholding the Appeal Court ruling in Suit No. CA/ABJ/CV/133/2024. Citing the absence of an Appropriation Law, the Sole Administrator issued a directive mandating the cancellation of all procurement activities carried out by MDAs during the affected period.

In an official statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibibia Worika, all MDAs that have conducted tender processes are required to refund tender fees to contractors immediately. This directive will remain in effect until the approval of a new spending plan by the state government.

The development marks a significant shift in the governance of Rivers State, further deepening the ongoing political tensions.
