According to reports, the herders, armed with 4 brand new AK-47 rifles, engaged in a gun battle with a combined security force consisting of the police and community safety corps.

The clash, which erupted in the dense forest, underscores the growing security concerns in the region, as criminal elements among herders continue to pose a threat to lives and property. Authorities have yet to release an official statement on casualties or arrests linked to the confrontation.

In a ruling delivered on Wednesday, Inyang Ekwo, the presiding judge, held that the applicant, Edo Civil Society Organisations (EDOSCO), lacked the legal right to institute the suit on Ukpo’s behalf. Ekwo held that the provision of article 3 (e) of the preamble to the fundamental rights (enforcement procedure) rules, 2009 (FREPR 2009), under which EDOSCO filed the suit, cannot be said to have granted any person without legal personality to sue or be sued in the court.
