APC National Caucus and NEC Meetings Indefinitely Postponed

In the wake of Abdullahi Adamu's resignation as national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party has announced the indefinite postponement of the National Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings. Abubakar Kyari, the Deputy Chairman (North), has assumed the position of acting national chairman following Adamu's resignation.

Kyari confirmed Adamu's resignation after a lengthy National Working Committee (NWC) meeting at the party's national secretariat in Abuja. During the meeting, it was also decided that Festus Fuanter, the former Deputy National Secretary, would serve as the acting national secretary, taking over from Iyiola Omisore, who also resigned.

Kyari addressed reporters, stating, "With this development and according to the constitution of the APC, it is now incumbent on my humble self, Senator Abubakar Kyari, as deputy national chairman (North) to assume the office of the acting national chairman of the APC. Subsequently also, the deputy national secretary, Festus Fuantar, will now assume the office of the acting National Secretary of the APC."

He further explained that the scheduled National Caucus meeting, originally planned for July 18, and the National Executive Committee meeting scheduled for July 19, have been postponed indefinitely. However, Kyari assured that a new date would be communicated in the near future.

Regarding the allegations of financial recklessness against Adamu, Kyari stated that the NWC would operate in line with legal procedures and the advice of legal experts.

Meanwhile, Adamu has cleared out his personal belongings from his office, and his staff were seen packing his items. Large portrait pictures of Adamu were removed from various offices and replaced with portraits of Kyari.

There was a minor incident when Omisore, the former national secretary, was denied entry into the NWC meeting. He later left the headquarters after the Chief Security Officer (CSO) persuaded the NWC members to allow his entry into the complex.

As rumors circulate about potential replacements for Adamu, such as James Faleke, Emma Enukwu, and Simon Lalong, a member of the NWC emphasized that the party would engage in extensive consultations before making a final decision.

The news of Adamu's resignation was met with jubilation among the secretariat staff, who had reportedly faced challenges under his leadership. They expressed relief at his departure and accused him of favoritism and neglecting the needs of the staff.

Party chieftain Osita Okechukwu described Adamu's resignation as long overdue and called for a complete overhaul of the party from the ward to the national level. Okechukwu suggested that President Tinubu should establish an ad-hoc committee to reposition the APC and consider a mini-national convention to realign the party with its objectives.

The indefinite postponement of the National Caucus and NEC meetings raises questions about the party's future direction and the steps it will take to address internal challenges. As the APC navigates this period of transition, political observers will be closely watching for further developments and the eventual rescheduling of the postponed meetings.
