Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu Responds to Vanguard Newspaper's Article

The Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) Enugu has issued a strong response to a recent article published in Vanguard Newspaper on August 6th, 2023. The Institute, through its Management, has refuted the allegations made in the article, which it claims were spread by individuals with malicious intentions. Key points highlighted in the response include:

Appointment Process: IMT clarified that staff appointments are subject to the explicit approval of the Governor through the Governing Council. The Institute emphasized that no employment had been made without proper authorization, and appointments are based on merit and seniority.

Academic Board Meetings: IMT confirmed that the Academic Board meetings are statutory and cannot be bypassed. The Business Committee (BC) within the Academic Board does not have approval powers.

Dealing with Cases: The Institute stated that the Academic Board follows a well-defined procedure for handling reported cases of missing scripts. Past instances of staff culpability were addressed with appropriate penalties.

Part-time Staff: IMT clarified that part-time staff are well aware of their remunerations through their Letters of Appointment. It also mentioned that staff guilty of misconduct, extortion, and sexual harassment have been dismissed by the Council.

NYSC Allegation: IMT refuted claims of NYSC call-up racketeering, emphasizing that call-up letters are generated online by prospective corps members themselves.

Utilization of Land Proceeds: The Institute explained that funds from the sale of land in Abuja were used to develop infrastructure, including a modern academic complex with solar and other modern features, for the benefit of staff and students.

Deputy Rector Appointment: IMT defended the appointment of the Deputy Rector, stating that it followed the law and was the outcome of a rigorous process based on merit and the Academic Board's recommendation.

Interventions by Former Governor: IMT acknowledged the significant support received from former Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, including a range of physical infrastructure improvements, procurement of equipment, and financial assistance for accreditation and convocation ceremonies.

The Institute expressed its disappointment in the unverified nature of the Vanguard article and its failure to seek a balanced perspective. IMT urged Vanguard Newspaper to consider wise counsel and act justly in light of the provided clarifications.
