Women Empowerment: Enugu State Gov't Seeks Strategic Alliance with Lantana College of Hospitality


In a move towards women empowerment and economic growth in Enugu State, the State's Commissioner for Labour and Employment, Hon. Pharm Chika Ugwuoke, embarked on a pivotal visit to Lantana College of Hospitality. The primary objective of this visit was to explore potential collaborations in skills development, with a particular focus on equipping women in Enugu State with essential hospitality skills for employment and wealth creation.

Speaking on behalf of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah's administration, Hon. Pharm Chika Ugwuoke emphasized the government's commitment to providing citizens with the skills necessary for innovation and economic growth. He stated, "Gov. Peter's Administration is intentional about positioning our citizens with the robust skills required to drive innovation and grow our GDP through entrepreneurship. The governor is particularly interested in ensuring that women in Enugu are given special attention in this empowerment drive."

The commissioner was visibly impressed with the capacity and resources available at Lantana College. He remarked, "The facilities here at Lantana College are world-class. They are well-suited to provide our women with the practical skills they need to excel in the hospitality industry."

One of the most notable aspects of this strategic alliance is the intention to utilize graduates from Lantana College to support the governor's upcoming revitalization project for the Presidential Hotel, Nike Lake. This initiative aims to meet the growing demands of the booming hospitality sector in Enugu by supplying well-trained personnel and significantly contributing to job creation, with a particular focus on empowering women in the community.

Enugu State, known for its vibrant culture and natural beauty, has been increasingly recognized as a destination for investments and economic opportunities. Under the leadership of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, the state has attracted investment interest across various sectors, prompting a deliberate effort by the government to empower its citizens. Women, in particular, are seen as key drivers of the state's future growth. 

During the visit, the Commissioner for Labour and Employment was given a comprehensive tour of Lantana College's state-of-the-art facilities. The campus boasts well-equipped classrooms, modern kitchens, a laundry training center, mock hotel rooms, and a fully operational restaurant, all designed to provide students with a real-world learning experience.

Hon. Pharm Chika Ugwuoke thanked the management of Lantana College for their willingness to collaborate with the state government and assured the speedy implementation of the program to empower women in Enugu. This alliance signifies a new era of women's empowerment and economic development in Enugu State, driven by strategic partnerships and a commitment to equipping women with the skills needed for success in the hospitality industry.
