Ugwuanyi mni Lauds Enugu First Lady's Campaign Against Child Abuse ...Says It is Taking Enugu State Closer to Realisation of a Future Where Every Child Grows in Safety, Love and Dignity

A groundbreaking campaign against child abuse has been launched in Enugu State through the collaborative efforts of the Office of the First Lady of Enugu State and Custos Care Foundation in a unified effort to protect the vulnerable children of Enugu State. According to Dr Mrs Favour Ugwuayi, this nouveau initiative of Her Excellency, Mrs Nkechinyere Mbah, aims not only to raise awareness but also to empower children with the tools to recognize and respond to abuse, educate educators, and engage the broader community.

The campaign, which was inaugurated recently, saw enthusiastic participation from students and educators alike in Enugu East Local Government Area. Central School Emene and Community School Amorji were the focal points of the initial phase, where students were educated on the intricacies of child abuse and equipped with strategies to combat it.

A highlight of the initiative is the establishment of "Little Vanguards" clubs within schools. These clubs, overseen by teachers, serve as safe spaces where students can identify signs of abuse among their peers and report them to designated authorities. "This innovative approach ensures that children not only understand the importance of safeguarding themselves and others but also have a direct channel to seek assistance" she said.

The response from both students and educators has been overwhelmingly positive, signaling a collective determination to foster a culture of safety and protection within Enugu's educational institutions. The initiative is set to extend its reach across all local government areas in the state, with the ultimate goal of instilling a sense of value, protection, and empowerment in every child.

The Custos Care Foundation has expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts and emphasized the importance of community engagement in combating child abuse. They reiterated the commitment to continue the mission until every child in Enugu State is assured of a safe and nurturing environment.

While this campaign continues to gains the admiration pf all, it serves as hope for the future, promising a generation of children who are not only aware of their rights but also equipped to defend them. "In Enugu State, the First Lady's fight against child abuse is not just a slogan but a solemn pledge to protect the innocence and well-being of every child" said Dr. Favour Ugwuayi.
