The immediate past Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Hon Pedro Okwudili Nwankwo, has commended the Enugu State Governor, His Excellency, Barr Peter Mbah's rapid innovative approach towards transforming Enugu State through laudable developmental projects within a short time in office: In a time demanding urgency, creativity, and disruption of the status quo, the pride of having Governor Peter Mbah at the helm of Enugu State could not be more profound. His administration has ushered in a rebirth, marked by a myriad of development projects that have stunned both admirers and adversaries

A cornerstone of Governor Mbah's achievements is the rapid construction of 260 smart schools across the state, aimed at revolutionizing education with modern ICT-based methods. Complementing this is the simultaneous development of 260 Type-2 primary healthcare centres, demonstrating a robust commitment to health and education. This focus on infrastructure extends to the road network, with over 70 roads being constructed in both urban and rural areas within just four months of his administration, enhancing connectivity and economic growth.

Moreover, workers and civil servants in the state celebrate a new lease on life through wage awards that have strengthened their purchasing power. The governor's promise to train and empower 40,000 youths has not only been met but surpassed, showcasing his dedication to human capital development.

Governor Mbah's administration has also placed a high priority on safety and security. Modern technology has been integrated into the state’s security apparatus, including plans to deploy surveillance cameras across major roads in urban areas and the launch of the Distress Response Squad (DRS) for rapid emergency response.

The termination of the illegal Monday sit-at-home order by non-state actors stands out as a significant achievement, restoring normalcy and reinforcing the rule of law.

In a remarkable turnaround, the administration commissioned the 9th Mile 24/7 water scheme within 180 days, producing 70 million litres of water per day, ensuring a reliable water supply to the state metropolis. Efforts to reticulate this water to homes are ongoing, renewing hope for sustainable water resources.

Governor Mbah's passion for education is evident in his commitment to allocate over 33% of this fiscal year's budget to the education and well-being of children, further reflected in the construction of smart schools. The health sector is also a priority, with the ongoing construction of healthcare centres across the state's wards.

Economic development has not been neglected. A significant investment of ₦100 billion in partnership with Pragmatic Palm Limited aims to revive the moribund Enugu State United Palm Products. The redesign of the 5,000-capacity international conference center, which includes a 5-star hotel, epitomizes the governor’s vision for a modern and prosperous Enugu State.

In October 2023, Governor Mbah began the construction of the New Enugu City, a 40km dual carriageway, 10 intrastate roads, and 71 urban roads. The New Enugu City, awarded to the Chinese Communication and Construction Company (CCCC), will be completed in 24 months and is estimated to generate about N500 billion in revenue for the state. It consists of the Happy Island, the Vitality Bay, and the Innovation Park, and is set to decongest Enugu and provide significant tourism value.

In addition, Governor Mbah’s administration has made significant strides in human development. Scholarships have been awarded to deserving students, fostering educational advancement. The goal to build 260 smart schools in 260 wards aims to shift from traditional chalk-and-board methods to modern ICT-based education, preparing a generation of tech-competent individuals.

Under Governor Mbah's leadership, the citizens of Enugu State have seen transformative progress. The administration’s efforts in upgrading the police fleet, providing modern vehicles and equipment, and enhancing training programs underscore a commitment to leveraging technology for the safety and prosperity of Enugu's citizens.
