BREAKING: Enugu State Govt Opens Recruitment for Community-Based Health Workforce
The Enugu State Government has announced a major recruitment drive aimed at strengthening grassroots healthcare delivery through its Community-Based Health Workforce Programme (CBHWP). The initiative, led by the Enugu State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (ENS-PHCDA) in collaboration with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), comes under the Renewed Hope Health Initiative of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.
The programme, which targets all 260 wards across the state, seeks to improve Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal, and Adolescent Health outcomes, promote health education, expand healthcare access, and create greater demand for Primary Health Centres (PHCs). Successful applicants will be trained and deployed to their respective wards, ensuring that healthcare delivery reaches every corner of Enugu State.
Two categories of positions are open for application:
Junior Community Health Extension Workers (JCHEWs)
Assistant Community-Based Volunteers (ACBVs)
Applicants for the JCHEWs position must be indigenes and residents of their wards, possess a valid JCHEW certificate with a current practicing license (CHPRBN), have strong communication skills, be able to operate a smartphone, and fall within the age range of 25 to 60 years.
For the ACBVs role, a minimum of WAEC/NECO/GCE is required, along with residency in the ward of application. Candidates must also demonstrate the ability to read, write, and speak their local dialect, possess basic smartphone literacy, and show readiness to serve their communities.
The application window runs from September 11th to 15th, 2025, with interested candidates directed to apply through https://ephc.online/home.
Dr. Ifeyinwa Ani-Osheku, Executive Secretary/CEO of ENS-PHCDA, who announced the programme, emphasized that the recruitment reflects Governor Peter Mbah’s commitment to a transformative healthcare system. She described the CBHWP as a strategic step toward “building a healthier Enugu State where quality healthcare is not a privilege but a right accessible to every citizen.”
With this initiative, the government is not only boosting healthcare delivery but also creating job opportunities for qualified indigenes across the wards.
Tomorrow’s healthcare for Enugu people, it seems, is already here
