Enugu First Lady Wraps Up August Meeting at Nkanu East, Spreads Love Through Mama Care Kitchen Initiative

The 2025 August Meeting in Enugu State came to a colorful close on Sunday, September 7, 2025, as the Office of the First Lady of Enugu State, in collaboration with the Office of the Wife of the Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Area, successfully hosted the August Meeting of Nkanu East women at the Council Secretariat, Nkanu East. The grand finale of the annual women’s gathering combined cultural celebration with impactful empowerment, leaving a lasting imprint on the women and families of the Governor’s home local government.

A special highlight of the event was the Mama Care Kitchen Initiative of Her Excellency, Mrs. Nkechinyere Iheoma Mbah, which spread love to nursing and breastfeeding mothers, as well as women across the council. Through the initiative, food packages, nutritional support, and other items were shared as a demonstration of the First Lady’s commitment to maternal care and women’s wellbeing.

In addition, women were empowered with bags of rice, noodles, wrappers, and clothing materials, while children and students benefited from back-to-school packages to ease the financial burden on families.

Her Excellency, the First Lady of Enugu State, Mrs. Nkechinyere Iheoma Mbah, was ably represented by her Special Assistant on Special Duties, Barr. Mrs. Chidimma Egeonu, who conveyed her goodwill message. She praised the women of Nkanu East for their steadfastness and commitment to family and community building, noting that initiatives like the Mama Care Kitchen reflect the First Lady’s passion for empowering women and nurturing healthier families.

In her remarks, Mrs. Rita Edeh, Wife of the Chairman of Nkanu East L.G.A., described the August Meeting as a platform to mobilize women for unity, growth, and self-reliance. She stressed that the collaborative empowerment program was not just about celebration, but about equipping women with resources that enable them to contribute meaningfully to their families and society.

The event also attracted the presence of the State Woman Leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Peace Nnaji, who commended the First Lady for championing initiatives that empower women across Enugu State. She urged the women of Nkanu East to remain united and continue to support the PDP-led government in sustaining grassroots development.

In their goodwill messages, the Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Council, Hon. Sydney Okechukwu Edeh, and the Member representing Nkanu East in the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Okechukwu Mbah, pledged their unwavering support to the Governor’s transformative agenda. They, alongside other PDP stakeholders in the L.G.A., applauded Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s achievements within two and a half years in office, citing strides in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and empowerment as proof of visionary leadership.

The highlight of the August Meeting was the endorsement of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for a second term in office. Stakeholders, women leaders, and political actors in Nkanu East vowed to deliver overwhelming support ahead of the 2027 General Elections, describing him as the pride of Enugu and a reformer whose vision has repositioned the state on the path of prosperity.

The 2025 Nkanu East August Meeting, hosted by Mrs. Rita Edeh, thus wrapped up the series of women’s gatherings across the state, serving not only as a cultural homecoming but also as a bold declaration of unity, empowerment, and political solidarity with the Governor of Enugu State. It ended on a high note with renewed commitment by the women and leaders of Nkanu East to stand as pillars of support for the Mbah administration.
