Breaking News!! Dr Ben Nwoye Breaks the Chains of APC Enugu Captivity

In a landmark political development, Dr. Ben Nwoye has reclaimed leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, effectively ending the prolonged influence of Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, over the party’s affairs in the region.
The controversy dates back to 2021, when Ugochukwu Agballah was appointed APC Chairman for Enugu State—a decision that sparked immediate resistance from prominent stakeholders including former Governor Sullivan Chime, former Speaker Eugene Odoh, and former Senate President Ken Nnamani. Critics argued that Agballah, a former member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), lacked the ideological and structural grounding required for the APC’s leadership in Enugu.
Despite widespread opposition, Agballah retained his position—allegedly with the backing of Governor Uzodimma—fueling suspicions of external interference and deepening internal divisions within the Enugu APC. This led to a factional crisis, with Dr. Nwoye championing a rival faction that contested Agballah’s legitimacy through both political and legal means.
Following protracted litigation, the court recognized Dr. Ben Nwoye as the legitimate APC Chairman for Enugu State, but Agballah continued to act as chairman, citing endorsement by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC). Nwoye responded with a contempt suit against both Agballah and the NWC for undermining judicial authority.
In a dramatic twist, the APC National Working Committee has now dissolved the Enugu State executive committee and formally reappointed Dr. Ben Nwoye as chairman, with Eugene Odoh serving as secretary. This decision effectively ends Agballah’s reign and signals a major power shift within the party.
Governor Uzodimma’s controversial involvement in Enugu APC politics has long been viewed as an attempt to expand his political foothold beyond Imo State—a move that many members saw as destabilizing. His backing of Agballah intensified accusations of manipulation and external control over the party’s internal structure.
With Dr. Nwoye’s reinstatement, the APC in Enugu State now faces the critical task of rebuilding unity and restoring credibility. Party leaders emphasize that future success depends on genuine reconciliation, transparency, and inclusive leadership.
As the political landscape in Enugu evolves, the APC’s response to this leadership transition will determine its long-term viability and influence in the region’s fast-changing political environment.
