National Women Group Honours Amb. Mrs. Amaka Nweke, Others For Leadership Excellence

In a grand celebration of leadership, service, and excellence, the Progressive Women Group (PWG), a nationally recognized women’s movement known for acknowledging distinguished personalities who have excelled in both public and private sectors, has honoured a host of prominent Nigerians, including H.E. Rt. Hon. Dr. Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi, Chief Dr. Damian Chirote Odo (Messiah N’ Nsukka), Hon. Clifford Nnaemeka Obe, Hon. Ejike Jude Eze, and the Founder and Global Leader of the Anambra Women General Assembly (AWGA), Amb. Mrs. Amaka Nweke (JP).
The colourful event, themed around “Women in Leadership and National Progress,” was convened by Chief Hon. Dr. Oby Ajih Akaninyene, also known as “Woman Jagaban”, the Leader of the Progressive Women Group and Founder of the Hope Alive Foundation, at a well-attended ceremony that brought together female trailblazers, political leaders, and social advocates from across Nigeria.
The Progressive Women Group, widely respected for its national influence, has over the years built a reputation as a strong voice for inclusion, recognition, and celebration of women and men who have shown outstanding leadership and service to humanity. The group’s award of recognition is regarded as one of the most prestigious platforms for honouring distinguished achievers across Nigeria.
Among the key recipients of the 2025 edition was Ambassador Mrs. Amaka Nweke (JP), who was decorated with the Special Award of Recognition for her transformative leadership, is a Commissioner in the Enugu State Local Government Service Commission, a tireless advocacy for women’s empowerment, her immense contribution to social development across Nigeria, particularly through her work with the Anambra Women General Assembly (AWGA), a fast-growing platform she founded for promoting gender inclusion, peace, and women’s rights are some of the basis for rhis revered award. She is also the founder of Women Support Women Community Network and the popular Amaka Nweke Found.
While responding to the honour, Ambassador Nweke expressed heartfelt appreciation to the organizers and dedicated the award to God Almighty, Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, and his wife, Her Excellency Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, for their visionary leadership and consistent empowerment of women across Enugu State.
“I’m overwhelmed with profound gratitude for being recognized by the Progressive Women Group (PWG) ably led by the promising and inspiring Dr. Oby Ajih Akaninyene, also fondly called Woman Jagaban, during the inaugural and awards event organized by the group,” Ambassador Nweke began.
“It is indeed a momentous day, marking the beginning of a new chapter for this dynamic group. I dedicate this special award to the Almighty God, who has been my guiding light, my help, and my unfailing source of strength. Furthermore, I’d like to gladly express my heartfelt appreciation and dedication of this award to His Excellency, Governor Barrister Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, and his admirable wife, Her Excellency Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, for giving me a seat at the table and amplifying my voice in Enugu State.”
Continuing, she praised the Mbah administration for its inclusive and people-centered leadership style, particularly its policies on gender equity, youth empowerment, and human capital development, which she said have opened new opportunities for women to excel in leadership and entrepreneurship.
“Your sterling and visionary leadership attributes, coupled with your unwavering commitment to empowering women and girls, have created pathways for us to thrive and prosper in our noble endeavours,” she added.
Ambassador Nweke, whose passion for women’s development has earned her widespread respect, reaffirmed her dedication to serving humanity through compassion, advocacy, and collective progress.
“I am deeply honoured to be part of a progressive and humanitarian community that uplifts and empowers women. Thanks to the Progressive Women Group for this special recognition. I pledge to continue serving with utmost respect, integrity, and dedication. Together, we can build a society where every woman’s voice is heard and every dream is valid. To God be the glory forever,” she concluded to a standing ovation.
Dr. Oby Ajih Akaninyene, in her remarks, described Ambassador Nweke as “a woman of rare courage and influence whose leadership has inspired hope in countless women across Nigeria.” She commended all honourees for their resilience, patriotism, and selfless service, reiterating that the Progressive Women Group will continue to honour, mentor, and celebrate those who represent the true spirit of leadership.
The event ended on a high note, with cultural displays, musical performances, and renewed calls for unity and collaboration among women leaders. The recognition of Amb. Mrs. Amaka Nweke JP and other eminent awardees once again underscored the fact that women remain a vital force in Nigeria’s journey toward inclusive governance, social justice, and sustainable development.
