ENUGU: Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Enih Graces the Flag-Off Ceremony of Nkanu East LGA 2023 August Meeting, Affirms Gov. Peter Mbah’s Administration's Readiness to Empower Women
The flag-off ceremony of Nkanu East Local Government Area 2023 August Meeting on Friday was grace by the presence of the Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, Enugu State, Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Enih, who delivered a compelling keynote speech highlighted the importance of gender equality, inclusion, and political participation during The event, themed "Innovation, Resilience, and Gender Equality," brought together a diverse audience to discuss and promote gender parity and empowerment.
Hon. Enih, the keynote speaker, emphasized the significance of financial independence for women, underlining its role in unlocking their potential within society. She urged women to become ambassadors of their families and play active roles in both family and social life.
"Women, children, and vulnerable members of society are the government's priority," said Hon. Enih, highlighting their well-being. She encouraged individuals facing stigma to voice their concerns and assured them of the Ministry's commitment to addressing complaints.
Addressing the need for increased female representation in leadership, Hon. Valentina Enih called on governments to prioritize women's participation in decision-making roles. She announced the disbursement of N450 million as part of the World Bank Counterpart Fund, aimed at facilitating women's access to grants. Eligible women from selected Local Government Areas were encouraged to register for the program.
A notable segment of the event was a women's empowerment initiative led by the First Lady of Nkanu East Local Government, Hon. Mrs. Rita Edeh. This initiative involved the distribution of essential resources, including commercial grinding machines, to empower women in establishing small-scale businesses. The objective is to enhance women's financial well-being and overall quality of life.
Hon. Chichi Ogbu, another speaker at the event, provided valuable insights into women's health, particularly focusing on menopause. She debunked misconceptions around menopause and stressed the importance of scientific knowledge in dispelling such myths.
Hon. Mrs. Rita Mbah, the Chairman of Enugu State Tourism Board, added significance to the occasion by urging women to actively engage in politics and present themselves with dignity. She emphasized that appearances often influence others' perceptions.
The Enugu State Ministry of Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development plays a pivotal role in advising the government on gender-related matters. Its broad mandate includes promoting gender equality in state processes and encouraging women's integration into various aspects of governance.
