Collapsed Storey Building: Enugu State Ministry of Gender Offers Support to Grieving Families


The aftermath of a heart-wrenching incident that unfolded on September 1st, 2023 in the Coal Camp Settlement of Enugu, the Enugu State Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Enih, extended her heartfelt condolences and unwavering support to the grieving family of four innocent siblings who lost their lives in a tragic building collapse.

Accompanied by a delegation of esteemed government officials, including Hon. Mrs. Dame Ugochi Madueke, the Enugu State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Mrs. Chinenyenwa Ogbu, the ENSIEC Commissioner, and the Permanent Secretary of MCGASD, Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Enih visited the hospital where Mrs. Modesta Okeke, the mother of the deceased children, is recovering from the trauma of the incident.

During this poignant visit, Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Enih conveyed her deep sympathy for Mrs. Okeke's loss and offered words of comfort, assuring her of the ministry's unwavering support throughout her journey towards recovery. In a gesture of goodwill, the Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development presented Mrs. Okeke with various gift items, including a substantial cash donation, aimed at alleviating her immediate needs during this challenging time.

The tragic incident transpired on the fateful night of September 1st, 2023, when a building collapse occurred in the Agric Quarters of Mgbemena, Coal Camp, within the Enugu North local government area. Shockingly, it was revealed during the investigation led by Hon. Uche Anya, the Chairman of the Enugu Capital Territory Development Agency (ECTDA), that the ill-fated structure, originally approved for animal husbandry purposes, had been illegally converted into residential units.

Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Enih's visit and her generous support underscore the government's resolute commitment to standing by the affected families during their time of profound grief and urgent need. This solemn gesture offers solace to a family navigating the immense pain of loss, while also sending a clear message about the importance of adhering to building regulations and ensuring public safety in the region.

Enugu: Mburubu 'Kingmakers' Council of Chiefs Denounce Controversial Self- Acclaimed Traditional Ruler

The Mburubu Council of Chiefs, also known as the Igwe Cabinet, has officially disowned Mr. Jerry Patrick Onukaibe, who recently proclaimed himself as the 'Igwe-elect' of Mburubu Kingdom. The council, in a communiqué released on Saturday, vehemently refuted any endorsement or recognition of Onukaibe for the revered position of traditional ruler.
