Enugu State Gov't Partners with World Bank, Invests Over 450 Million Naira to Empower Women, Uplift Families

In his significant stride towards the empowerment of women and the enhancement of family livelihoods in Enugu State, the Enugu State Government has forged a groundbreaking partnership with the World Bank, pledging an impressive sum of over 450 million Naira in counterpart funds for the "Nigeria for Women Project Enugu State." This collaborative endeavor is being orchestrated under the aegis of the Ministry of Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, aligning perfectly with the vision of His Excellency, Barr Peter Mbah, the Governor of Enugu State, to eradicate poverty within the region.

The momentous announcement of this partnership was made recently by Hon. Mrs Ngozi Enih, the Enugu State Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development. She commended Governor Peter Mbah for his unwavering commitment to women's empowerment and highlighted the significance of this partnership. Hon. Ngozi Enih noted, "the Governor's dedication to this cause is evident in his pioneering move as the first Nigerian governor to promptly provide the expected counterpart funds, marking a significant milestone in the state's efforts to enhance women's livelihoods."

In a bid to ensure the efficiency and seamless execution of the program, Governor Peter Mbah has taken the initiative to establish a dedicated state office for the project. To lead this vital initiative, he appointed the capable and experienced Barr. Blessing Ogbonna as the Project Coordinator. Her mandate is to drive the activities of the women's empowerment program and ensure its success.

Beyond the substantial financial commitment, Governor Peter Mbah has further demonstrated his commitment to this noble cause by granting a generous 50% waiver on the registration fees for women cooperative society beneficiaries. This waiver is strategically designed to facilitate easy access to the funds, aligning closely with the Governor's campaign promises to alleviate poverty and boost economic development.

In her remarks about the project, Hon. Ngozi Enih stated, "The 450 Million Naira Counterpart fund is very massive, and on behalf of the entire women in Enugu State, we say a big thank you to Gov. Peter Mbah for this wonderful opportunity he has given the women." Her words resonate with the heartfelt gratitude felt by the women of Enugu State towards the Governor's visionary leadership and unwavering support.

The state of Enugu, under Governor Peter Mbah's administration, has received widespread acclaim for its unwavering dedication to empowering its citizens, with a particular focus on women. This initiative underscores the pivotal role women play in economic development and highlights the government's resolve to harness their full potential.

This partnership with the World Bank marks a momentous stride towards a brighter future for women and families in Enugu State, further cementing the state's position as a leader in women's empowerment and poverty alleviation efforts. It is a testament to the commitment of Governor Peter Mbah and the Enugu State Government to effect lasting, positive change in the lives of its citizens.
