Enugu State Unveils Agricultural Transformation with Commissioning of 15 Processing Centers Supported by World Bank through APPEALS Project
The landmark inauguration ceremony, held at Nara in the Nkanu East Local Government Area, showcased Governor Mbah's commitment to elevating food production. Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, he outlined a vision to transform Enugu State into a net exporter of agricultural products within the next four years.
Since its 2019 inception, the APPEALS project has empowered 8,520 direct beneficiaries, including women, youths, and people with disabilities. Governor Mbah emphasized the positive impacts on farmers in various value chains, focusing on capacity building, technology demonstrations, and knowledge exchange.
The Enugu State APPEALS Project Coordinator, Mrs. Ihuoma Eze, highlighted the project's significant contributions, particularly in prioritizing the needs of women and youths. The newly inaugurated Centres boast state-of-the-art machinery, with rice processing capabilities of 10 tons per day and 5 tons per day for milling and drying.
Hon. Patrick Nwabueze Ubru, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro-Industrialisation, praised Governor Mbah's commitment to boosting food production. He encouraged continued collaboration to sustain the agricultural revolution, emphasizing the potential for substantial revenue generation.
Local government officials, including Hon. Okechukwu Edeh and Traditional Ruler Igwe Ifeanyi Ogbu, commended the project's timeliness and responsiveness. They expressed optimism that the processing centers would inspire farmers to embrace industrialized farming, enhancing economic growth in the state.
The commissioning ceremony, attended by key stakeholders, marks a momentous occasion in Enugu State's journey towards agricultural prosperity. The Aggregation and Processing Centres now stand as tangible symbols of a transformative step "from dream to reality" in the state's agricultural landscape.
