Enugu State Unveils Fashion Skills Acquisition Centre: A Gateway to Economic Empowerment


The Executive Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubisi Mbah, officially inaugurated the Enugu Fashion Skills Acquisition Centre, reinforcing the state government's resolute stance against poverty through skill acquisition. The commissioning ceremony, attended by esteemed dignitaries, marked a pivotal moment in the pursuit of fostering employability and self-sufficiency.


Representing Governor Peter Mbah, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, the Secretary to the State Government, stressed the pivotal role of skill acquisition in overcoming challenges and advancing economic prosperity. He urged the inaugural batch of trainees to embrace the program with dedication, recognizing its potential for personal growth and the overall development of Enugu.


Host Commissioner Pharm Chika Ugwuoke expressed gratitude for the Governor's unwavering support in establishing the center, lauding its profound impact on generational upliftment and communal prosperity. He hailed the Fashion Skills Acquisition Centre as a beacon of hope, embodying Governor Mbah's visionary outlook for the state.


The ceremony saw the presence of key figures, including commissioners for trade and investment, youths and sports development, water resources, and special duties, along with the Head of Service and members of the Enugu State House of Assembly. Representatives from SMEDAN, NDE, IFAD, and other organizations were also in attendance, underlining the collaborative effort towards sustainable development.


The state-of-the-art center features a training hall and three offices, equipped with sophisticated sewing and embroidery machines, showcasing a commitment to providing top-notch facilities. Commissioner for Labour and Employment, Hon Chika Ugwuoke, called on MDAs, individuals, and the public to patronize the center, ensuring its longevity and benefiting future generations.


Mr. Oscar, the Chief Trainer, outlined a comprehensive curriculum, emphasizing the abundant opportunities the program offers. Under the guidance of Mr. Okey Odo, Head of Productivity, a team of experienced trainers will conduct the sessions, ensuring a high standard of skill development.


The Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development encouraged participants to carve their niche in a competitive market. Barr Blessing Ogbonna advised young girls to see the program as a gateway to self-development, preparing them for future opportunities.


The Enugu Fashion Skills Acquisition Centre stands as a testament to the state government's unwavering commitment to equipping its citizens with the tools for economic empowerment and sustainable growth, setting the stage for a brighter future for Enugu.
