ENUGU: Jubilation as High Chief Linus Igbudu Emerges Authentic Igwe-elect of Mburubu Kingdom


Mburubu Community was thrown into jubilation, following a decisive resolution, when High Chief Linus Igbudu was unanimously elected as the traditional ruler designate of Mburubu community in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State. The announcement was made by the President-General of Mburubu Town Union, Chief Emmanuel Edeh, on the 18th of January 2024.

Born in the 70s to the esteemed family of Dr. & Mrs. Joseph Igbudu of Uhuegbe Village, Igwe Igbudu, an MBA holder in Financial Management, is known for his leadership roles. As the President of the Association of Enugu State Development Unions (AESDU) in Lagos, he has played a vital role in uniting Town Unions and autonomous communities in the region.

The Igwe-elect, a Rotarian and Ozo title holder in Mburubu Kingdom, serves as the CEO of Activelinks Brokers Ltd and holds positions on various company boards. The selection process involved delegates from the seven villages comprising the Mburubu community.

Chief Emmanuel Edeh emphasized the community's commitment to upholding traditions, stating that the Igweship rotates among the seven villages. He disassociated the community from any self-enthroned Igwe-Elect, particularly mentioning Jerry Patrick Onukaibe, whose actions were deemed divisive and against the community's values.

In a formal letter to the State Government, the Executive Chairman of Nkanu East LGA, Hon. Okechukwu Sydney Edeh, officially conveyed the election of High Chief Linus Igbudu as the Igwe-elect. The ceremony held at the Council Headquarters in Amagunze witnessed a significant turnout from the Mburubu community, underscoring the unity and support for their new traditional ruler.

“We write to forward to your office, the Igwe-elect of Mburubu Community High CHIEF LINUS IGBUDU, EZESINACHI I OF MBURUBU.

The people of Mburubu Community formally presented their Igwe-elect to Nkanu East Local Government Council on 18th January, 2024.

He was received by the Local Government Council Secretary, Mr. Emeka Nnamene who represented the executive Chairman, Hon. Okechukwu Edeh on the occasion.

In a brief ceremony at the Council Headquarters, Amagunze, the president general, Mburubu Town Union, Hon. Emmanuel Edeh franked by his exco members and other members of the community officially presented their Igwe-elect, High Chief Linus Igbudu to the Executive Chairman, Hon. Okechukwu Sydney Edeh for onward transmission to Enugu State Government.

The ceremony attracted a large crowd from Mburubu Community, these included President General Mburubu Town Union, Hon. Emmanuel Edeh, union Secretary Ozo John Nwosu, Dr. Innocent Ukpabi councilor Mburubu ward, High Chief Simon Aniobi, former PG Mburubu Community, Ozo Chijioke Igbudu, Chief Kingsley Nwigwe and among others.

Presenting the Igwe designate to the mammoth crowd gathered that the Amagunze headquarter of the Nkanu East, the President-General of Mburubu Town Union (MTU), Chief Emmanuel Edeh, said; "while the community is concluding the observation of two-year mourning period for the late traditional ruler, His Majesty Igwe E.M.O. Ezeh, it is only natural that the community scouts for a new king to be in custody of the traditions and customs of Mburubu ancient kingdom"

The President-General, Hon. Emmanuel Edeh, along with other community leaders, presented Igwe-elect High Chief Linus Igbudu to the Executive Chairman, Hon. Okechukwu Sydney Edeh, for further transmission to the Enugu State Government. The community expressed hope that the new leadership would contribute to maintaining peace and fostering development in Mburubu.

Enugu: Mburubu 'Kingmakers' Council of Chiefs Denounce Controversial Self- Acclaimed Traditional Ruler

The Mburubu Council of Chiefs, also known as the Igwe Cabinet, has officially disowned Mr. Jerry Patrick Onukaibe, who recently proclaimed himself as the 'Igwe-elect' of Mburubu Kingdom. The council, in a communiqué released on Saturday, vehemently refuted any endorsement or recognition of Onukaibe for the revered position of traditional ruler.
