Gburugburu Free Surgery Programme Saves 6 Lives in the Fourth Batch of January 2024 Interventions


In a show of compassion and commitment to public health, the Gburugburu Free Surgery Programme, founded and funded by former Enugu State Governor Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has successfully conducted life-saving surgical interventions for six residents, transcending geographical boundaries.

The fourth series of the programme saw beneficiaries from various locations, including Ghana, Lagos, and other parts of Nigeria. Among them, Ebubechukwu Peace Eke from Orba underwent Lumpectomy for multiple bilateral breast lumps. Samuel Pius, a 6-year-old boy from Obukpa in Ghana, received corrective surgery for Right Hydrocoele of the cord.

Ugwu Sampson Ugochukwu, hailing from Amalla Orba, had an inguinoscrotal hernia corrected, while Onwura Stephenia NK from Eha-Alumona had a Giant Lipoma on the right hip successfully treated. Emmanuel Ezugwu from Lagos, with a Giant Lipoma on the forehead, and Ugwu Chimobi from Niger state, with an abnormal chest growth, also found relief through the programme.

Director-General of the Gburugburu Free Surgery Programme, Dr. Ajogwu, expressed gratitude to Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his unwavering support, even after leaving office. Dr. Ajogwu praised the current administration of Governor Peter Mbah and Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai for their transformative journey in public health.

The recent successes underscore the impactful beginning of healthcare in 2024, fostering optimism for positive transformations throughout the year. Dr. Ajogwu emphasized the collective duty of citizens to enhance the health and well-being of others, a principle embodied by Governor Ugwuanyi, Governor Mbah, and Deputy Governor Ossai. The Free Surgery Programme continues to be a beacon of hope, transcending geographical boundaries to bring health and healing to those in need.

Enugu: Mburubu 'Kingmakers' Council of Chiefs Denounce Controversial Self- Acclaimed Traditional Ruler

The Mburubu Council of Chiefs, also known as the Igwe Cabinet, has officially disowned Mr. Jerry Patrick Onukaibe, who recently proclaimed himself as the 'Igwe-elect' of Mburubu Kingdom. The council, in a communiqué released on Saturday, vehemently refuted any endorsement or recognition of Onukaibe for the revered position of traditional ruler. According to the communiqué, the council expressed deep embarrassment over Onukaibe's self-presentation to the Chairman of Nkanu East LGA, labeling it as an act of impersonation and emphasizing that he was never nominated, selected, or recommended by the community for such a role.
