Ebonyi PDP Vows to Reclaim Position as Barr Oruruo-led Caretaker Committee Unites All Fronts

The Barr Steve Oruruo-led People's Democratic Party, PDP, caretaker committee in Ebonyi has vowed to restore the dignity of the party in order to reclaim its leadership position in the state.

This was evident on Sunday during the party's stakeholders engagement for a peaceful and transparent party congress in Ebonyi State, held in Enugu.

Our government house correspondent Fred Nnaji reports that Barr Steve Oruruo-led caretaker committee was set up to reconcile the disgruntled members of the party and set the stage ready for it's congress that will be anchored on peace and unity.

Commending the leader of the party in the South East and the governor of Enugu state, Dr Peter Mbah for his determination to ensure that PDP bounces back to leadership in the remaining four states in the zone, Barr Oruruo assured that aggrieved parties would be reconciled to form a very strong, vibrant and united political party.

While acknowledging that governor Mbah and the national leadership of the PDP wanted the best for the party in the South East where the poor and the rich can come together to form a formidable force, the Ebonyi PDP caretaker chairman said plurality of opinions would be accommodated in order to have clean and standard practices in their congresses.

He maintained that Ebonyi state was predominantly PDP, hence the need to smooth the ground for the party to welcome back its members who have joined other parties due to crises, noting that anyone who feels disgruntled about the decision to restore unity that will herald a peaceful congress in the state should honourably resign as there would be no room for rancor and hypocrisy.

While acknowledging that no political party in Nigeria has succeeded without crises, Barr Oruruo said every member of the PDP is indispensable, noting that they would work as a united body with common force and get the party formidably back through robust advocacy and consultations.

Oruruo assured stakeholders that the committee is prepared for the challenges ahead. "We are committed to peace and building bridges instead of walls. Through continuous advocacy, prayer, and cooperation, the party’s pains will end."

Touching briefly on Senator Anyim Pius Anyim's defection to the APC, Oruruo remarked, "Senator Anyim had informed us months ago of his resignation. His move is a personal choice, but our party remains the largest in West Africa, and the umbrella is always open for returnees."

The star-studded meeting saw the attendance of prominent figures such as the National Vice Chairman of the PDP, Chief Ali Odefa; Former Governor Senator Sam Egwu, represented by Fred Onwe; the PDP’s last governorship candidate, Chief Ifeanyi Odi, represented by Senator Igwe Nwagu Paulinus; former national secretary Barr. Onwe Solomon Onwe, and several members of the caretaker committee. While the meeting concluded, the atmosphere was charged with renewed hope and determination. The stakeholders left with a unified vision, ready to steer the PDP towards a brighter, more inclusive future.

Stay tuned as the Ebonyi PDP embarks on this transformative journey, setting the stage for a peaceful, transparent, and victorious congress.
