Enugu State Labour Party Executive Council Meeting Concludes with Key Resolutions



The Labour Party (LP) in Enugu State convened a significant State Executive Council meeting on Tuesday, presided over by the State Chairman, Hon. Barr. Casmir Agbo. The meeting, which included the state executive members and the chairmen and secretaries of the 17 local government areas, resulted in several critical resolutions aimed at strengthening the party's position and preparing for upcoming electoral activities.

ISSUED BY LABOUR PARTY, ENUGU STATE

AT THE END OF THE STATE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING

HELD ON TUESDAY, 23RD JULY 2024.


The state Executive Council of the Labour Party, Enugu State Chapter consisting of the state EXCOS and the chairmen and secretaries of the 17 local governments, convened and chaired by Hon. Barr. Casmir Agbo, State Chairman of the party, resolved as follows:


1. Vote of Confidence: The council expressed confidence in the National Party Chairman, Barr. Julius Abure, and the State Chairman, Barr. Casmir Uchenna Agbo.


2. Participation in Local Government Election: The Enugu State Labour Party will participate in the upcoming local government election, with a fresh primary election to be conducted at both the local government and ward levels.


3. Primary Election Schedule: The official date of the primary election is 5th of August as  the party has submitted timetable to ENSIEC. Sales of interest forms has commenced, with exemptions for those who have previously purchased forms.


4. Defected LP Lawmakers: The council was briefed on the development regarding the defected LP lawmakers, which is at the level of exchange of court processes and awaiting the reply of the defendant within the space of 30 days from the time they were served .The main court proceedings for the  case will commence after the court recess.


POST-MEETING INTERVIEW WITH THE STATE CHAIRMAN


Barr. Casmir Agbo expressed satisfaction with the meeting's outcome and thanked the council for their trust and support. He promised to continue running a transparent government addressing the people's needs and yearnings.


On the suit against defected lawmakers, Agbo expected justice, citing the law's explicitness on the matter. He assured that the party would follow the case to its conclusion.


Regarding the local government election, Agbo stated that LP would prove the masses' desire for true change. He commended President Tinubu and the National Assembly for granting financial autonomy to local governments and called for electoral autonomy.


The chairman who stated that the date for the primary election is 5th of August 2024, having submitted the timetable to ENSIEC. He  also promised to further communicate the LP primary election modalities to party members once finalized with relevant authorities.
