Enugu: Woman Confesses to Attempting to Alter DNA Result, Says She Did It to Save Her Marriage

A married woman from Enugu, Mrs Uwakwe, has confessed to tampering with a DNA result in a desperate attempt to convince her husband that he was the father of their newborn child. The confession came after a second test exposed the forgery, unraveling a plot that has shocked the local community.

Mrs. Uwakwe admitted to downloading a DNA test form from the internet and altering it to show that her husband, Mr. Chuka Uwakwe was the biological father of the baby. The couple, well known in their Enugu neighborhood, had been married for five years, with this child being their first.

Trouble began when Mr. Chuka, a government employee, started questioning the paternity of the baby due to rumors circulating among family members and friends. Despite the initial DNA test which Mrs. Nkechi provided confirming his fatherhood, his suspicions grew. He sought a second, independent test, which revealed the truth: the child was fathered by another man, whose identity remains undisclosed.

When confronted, Mrs. Nkechi broke down and confessed, saying she altered the results to save her marriage and avoid public disgrace. "I didn’t want to lose my husband. I thought if I could convince him with the test, everything would go back to normal," she tearfully explained during her confession.

The incident has sparked a significant reaction across Enugu, with many locals voicing their surprise and disappointment at the lengths she went to hide the truth. Community leaders have expressed concern about the rising trend of DNA-related disputes, warning of the emotional and legal implications such actions could have on families.

The case is currently being reviewed, with potential charges of forgery and fraud being considered against Mrs. Uwakwe and Mr. Chuka has yet to make a public statement, but sources suggest that he is seeking legal counsel on how to move forward with the matter.

This case serves as a reminder of the consequences of dishonesty within marriage and the ethical boundaries people often cross when under pressure. Many in Enugu are following the case closely, waiting to see how the legal system will handle such a sensitive situation.
