Gov. Mbah Outlines Strategic Investment Plans for Enugu, Engages Coal City Elites Forum Abuja


In a move aimed at fostering private-sector partnerships and boosting Enugu State's economic growth, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State met with the members of the Coal City Elites Forum (CCEF) in Abuja. The forum, led by Ambassador Dr. Benito Eze, is composed of senior public servants of Enugu State extraction based in Abuja. During the high-level business roundtable, Governor Mbah outlined his vision for transforming Enugu’s economy through private sector investment and strategic collaborations.

In his opening address, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Donor Relations, Dubem Onyia Jr., highlighted the Governor’s notable achievements in his first year in office. These include initiatives aimed at boosting infrastructure, education, and economic diversification. Onyia emphasized the Governor's commitment to modernizing Enugu and making it a hub for innovation and investment.

Amb. Dr. Benito Eze, President of CCEF, welcomed attendees and reiterated the core objectives of the Forum, focusing on fostering collaboration for the state’s development. He lauded the Governor's impressive track record and requested support for the Forum, including permission to hold meetings at the Enugu State House in Abuja and land allocation in Enugu for members to build retirement homes.

Governor Mbah, who has set an ambitious target of expanding Enugu’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion within the next four to eight years, took the opportunity to further explain his administration’s efforts in reviving Enugu's moribund assets and creating an investment-friendly environment. He expressed optimism about the future, noting that Enugu is strategically positioned to attract both local and foreign investors.

The Governor also discussed plans for a Federal Senior Public Servants Estate in Enugu and the establishment of an agricultural model region. He expressed interest in replicating successful agricultural models like the Austrian cooperative system, which could transform Enugu’s agricultural sector.

At the close of the event, a question-and-answer session allowed attendees to interact directly with Governor Mbah. The Governor affirmed his commitment to partnering with the Coal City Elites Forum and other stakeholders across sectors, underscoring the mutual benefits such collaborations would bring to both the state and the Forum members.

In conclusion, Governor Mbah reaffirmed Enugu's openness to business, calling the state "a trusted partner for business in Nigeria" and an ideal stepping stone for foreign investors seeking to enter the African market.

This strategic engagement with the Coal City Elites Forum is part of the Governor's broader plan to harness the potential of Enugu's diaspora and create a synergy between public and private sectors to drive development in the state.
