BREAKING: Enugu Police Thwart Attempted Kidnap on Enugu/Opi/Nsukka Road UNN Lecturer Escapes From Kidnappers

In a swift response by operatives of the Enugu State Police Command, an attempted kidnapping was thwarted on October 28, 2024, around 7:10 p.m., along the Neke-Uno axis of the Enugu/Opi/Nsukka Road. Officers attached to the Unity Division engaged in a fierce gun battle with the suspects, leading them to flee with injuries. The suspects left behind an AK-47 rifle, two magazines holding twenty-two rounds, and a chain of thirty-nine live ammunition.

Later that night, additional police operations enabled a lecturer from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, who was reportedly kidnapped on October 26, to escape from his captors. This successful operation highlights the ongoing efforts by the police to secure lives and maintain peace across Enugu State.

The Command has also addressed rumors of the kidnapping of a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer from Benue State on the same road, stating that no such incident occurred. Claims that the Enugu/Opi/Nsukka Road is unsafe for travelers were also dismissed as scaremongering.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, psc(+), has ordered further deployment of both visible and undercover personnel along the route to strengthen security measures, reassuring the public of their safety on the Enugu/Opi/Nsukka Road and across the state.
