Happening Now! EFCC Arrests Bobrisky at Lagos Airport While Attempting to Board a Flight to London
Nigerian crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, was apprehended by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the Lagos airport while attempting to board a flight to London. The arrest was disclosed by Bobrisky himself through his Instagram story, where he shared a brief video claiming to have sustained injuries during the incident.
In the video, Bobrisky posted, "Nigerians help me, EFCC just arrested me. I’m badly injured." The latest development follows a series of legal and controversial encounters for the social media influencer. Just a few weeks ago, he faced another arrest by the Benin Republic Immigration Service at the Seme border during routine passport checks, attempting to leave Nigeria unnoticed.
The controversies surrounding Bobrisky escalated in April 2024 when he was sentenced to six months in prison by the Federal High Court in Lagos over charges related to naira abuse. Despite the sentence, reports later suggested he spent only three weeks in Kirikiri Prison before allegedly being transferred to a private location. This move sparked public outrage, with widespread speculation alleging that Bobrisky paid N15 million in bribes to secure preferential treatment.
In late September 2024, another scandal erupted when social media influencer VeryDarkMan leaked an audio recording allegedly involving Bobrisky. In the audio, Bobrisky purportedly claimed that popular musician Falz and his father, human rights lawyer Femi Falana, approached him during his incarceration, allegedly seeking N10 million in exchange for securing a presidential pardon on his behalf. This accusation led Falana and Falz to issue a cease-and-desist letter to Bobrisky on October 16, demanding a retraction and public apology. In response, Bobrisky denied any involvement, attributing responsibility for the audio content to VeryDarkMan.
Bobrisky’s frequent brushes with the law and alleged special treatment have led to significant public debate regarding the transparency of law enforcement and the influence of wealth in Nigeria’s judicial system. The arrest by the EFCC adds yet another chapter to Bobrisky’s ongoing legal troubles, further heightening public interest and scrutiny of the high-profile figure’s dealings and treatment within the judicial framework.
