BREAKING: Police Arrest 26 Kidnappers, Others For Different Criminal Offences
The State Commissioner of Police in his latest announcement, Ibrahim Abdullahi, revealed that the police have made significant arrests in their ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities in the region. Abdullahi, who assumed office as the 44th Commissioner of Police on October 21, 2024, reported that 523 suspects were apprehended for various crimes, including kidnapping, car theft, cattle rustling, phone snatching, and rape.
Among those arrested, 26 individuals were identified as kidnappers, 12 were involved in cattle rustling, 97 were phone snatchers, 17 were car snatchers, and 10 others were suspected of rape. The police also seized an array of weapons and recovered stolen property, including five AK-47 rifles, two pistols, a submachine gun (SMG), 283 rustled cows, 20 sheep, 105 rounds of live ammunition, and 102 kidnapped victims were rescued.
One of the key operations took place on November 24, 2024, when a joint police team successfully foiled an attempted kidnapping of farmers by armed bandits in Giwa Local Government Area. During the operation, 89 victims were rescued, and an AK-47 rifle was recovered. Earlier, on November 13, 2024, the police arrested Ali Lawal, a suspected member of a kidnapping syndicate, and seized two smartphones, three SIM cards, and N120,000 in cash.
On October 30, 2024, another operation led to the arrest of individuals involved in child trafficking and the rescue of a kidnapped baby. Additionally, on November 12, 2024, the police dismantled a high-profile kidnapping syndicate, arresting four individuals involved in the kidnapping and ransom of a female victim.
Abdullahi attributed these successes to proactive policing, community engagement, and close collaboration with other security agencies. He expressed his commitment to continuing efforts to improve security across the state and stressed the importance of community policing and public cooperation in the fight against crime. The Commissioner also thanked both police officers and the public for their ongoing support in maintaining law and order.
