...Both Leadership Express Gratitude for His Fulfilled Promises

In a heartfelt show of appreciation, the leadership of the Eke Agbani Market Traders, led by Chief Ikechukwu Ani and the Butchers Association, Mr. Ikechukwu Ogbodo, paid a 'thank you visit' to the Council Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Area, Hon. John Ogbodo, to appreciate him for his commitment and follow-through on his promises to the the Traders and Butchers Association of Eke Agbani Market. The visit which took place today, 24th of November, 2024 at Nkanu West Local Government Headquarters, Agbani was an opportunity for the both leadership to express gratitude for the council chairman’s efforts in improving their working conditions, particularly regarding the long-awaited rehabilitation of the market's abattoir and construction of borehole for and toilet facilities for both the Market and the Abattoir.

Just a few weeks after Hon. Ogbodo assumed office, he had made a promise to the butchers of Eke Agbani Market; to construct a modern, state-of-the-art abattoir to replace the unhygienic and dilapidated facilities that had long been a source of concern, a gesture that he also extended to the market too, to drill borehole and construct toilet facilities aimed at curbing open defecation, “We are grateful to your administration's concern to our welfare by keeping to tour promise. The abattoir was in a very poor condition, unfit for the purpose it served. It was an eyesore, and the sanitary conditions were far below acceptable standards, the borehole for the abattoir and another for the market are good news to our people,” Chief Ikechukwu Ani, the leader of the Eke Agbani Market, expressed.

In a display of confidence, also Chief Ani commended the chairman for immediately commencing work on the new abattoir project. “We thank you our chairman for coming to our rescue with the prompt commencement of this much-needed project. The new facility will bring relief to all of us who rely on the abattoir and the market for our livelihood,” he said.

Mr. Ikechukwu Ogbodo, Chairman of the Eke Agbani Market Butchers' Association, also expressed his gratitude. He hailed the council chairman as a “talk and do chairman,” noting that Hon. Ogbodo had demonstrated his reliability and trustworthiness by swiftly acting on his promises. “We believe in what you have said and done. You have shown that you can be trusted, and we are very thankful for that,” Mr. Ogbodo said.

The new abattoir, which is currently under construction near the market, will feature modern facilities, including a borehole and other necessary amenities. The market in the other hand will also get a borehole and a toilet facility to end open defecation in the market environment. Once completed, it is expected to be one of the best in the state, providing a much-needed upgrade for the butchers and traders who rely on the facility for their daily operations.

In his response, Hon. John Ogbodo expressed his pride in fulfilling his promise to the Eke Agbani Market Butchers and Traders Association, emphasizing the importance of keeping commitments made to the people. He also took the opportunity to highlight the ongoing developmental strides of the Enugu State government, led by His Excellency, Dr Peter Mbah, the Executive Governor of Enugu State which he said are guiding his approach to leadership in the local government.

“All council chairmen should emulate the aggressive developmental strides of Governor Peter Mbah, whose leadership has brought about transformative projects across Enugu State. These include the ongoing construction of the International Conference Center, Hotel Presidential, 260 Smart Green Schools, and 260 Type 2 Healthcare Centers, as well as the dualization of key roads like the Penoks-Ugwogo Nike-Opi Nsukka road,” the chairman said.

Hon. Ogbodo reiterated his commitment to replicating the governor’s vision at the local government level. “We are in a hurry to replicate what the Governor is doing across the state in our local government areas. God willing, we will deliver on these promises to our people,” he affirmed.

The joint visit by both leadership of market traders and  Butchers Association, and the assurances made by the council chairman have left the Eke Agbani Market optimistic about the future. The completion of the modern abattoir, the borehole and toilet facilities will be a significant boost for the butchers and the Traders, further cementing the local government's commitment to improving infrastructure and quality of life in the area in line with Governor Peter Mbah's visionary approach to governance.
