In a powerful statement reflecting on Governor Peter Mbah’s 2025 budget proposal, Rt. Hon. Paul Nnajiofor, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Legislative Matters, commended the governor for presenting what he described as a "historic and unprecedented budget." The proposed budget, amounting to a record N971 billion, marks a monumental leap in the administration’s pursuit of sustainable development and poverty eradication for the people of Enugu State.

Rt. Hon. Paul Nnajiofor praised the governor’s vision, acknowledging the emphasis on infrastructure, education, and other key sectors that will drive the state’s transformation. "The ‘Budget of Exponential Growth and Inclusive Prosperity’ as presented by Governor Peter Mbah is a testament to his strategic foresight and commitment to transforming Enugu State into a hub of economic activity, education, and innovation," Nnajiofor stated. He went on to highlight that the budget's focus on capital expenditure; 86% of the total budget is a clear indication of the administration's commitment to building the infrastructure needed to propel the state into the future.

Nnajiofor particularly lauded the governor for maintaining a strong focus on education, which received a significant portion of the budget. "The lion's share of this budget is allocated to education, with a remarkable N320.6 billion earmarked for the sector, representing over 33% of the total budget. This reaffirms Governor Mbah’s belief in education as the 'sword' and 'shield' in the fight against poverty and underdevelopment," Nnajiofor explained. He further expressed admiration for the continued investment in critical infrastructure, including roads, bridges, transport services, and energy. "The governor’s decision to prioritize infrastructure reflects a well-rounded approach to economic growth. Building and modernizing roads, expanding transport services, and ensuring access to energy will create the necessary conditions for industries to thrive, attracting private investments that will create jobs for the people of Enugu State," Nnajiofor added.

Rt. Hon. Nnajiofor also commended the governor for his effective partnership with the legislature, noting the collaborative spirit that has marked the executive-legislative relationship under Mbah's leadership. "The relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government has been marked by cordiality, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to advancing the interests of Ndi Enugu. The success of this budget proposal is a testament to the strength of this relationship," he said.

Nnajiofor also highlighted the impressive growth in the state's Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), which has surged from N37.4 billion in 2023 to a projected N144.7 billion by September 2024. "Governor Mbah's commitment to reducing the state’s reliance on federal allocations is a bold move that ensures financial independence and sustainable development. With a 286% increase in IGR, the state is well on its way to achieving fiscal autonomy, thereby creating more room for the implementation of critical projects that will benefit all sectors of the economy," he noted.

One of the key themes of Governor Mbah's budget is the commitment to inclusive development, where no individual or community is left behind. Nnajiofor reiterated this commitment, stating that the 2025 budget is a clear manifestation of Mbah’s determination to eradicate poverty and uplift the people of Enugu State. "Governor Mbah has continued to lay the foundation for an economy that prioritizes human capital development and the well-being of the people. This budget, which places significant focus on education, healthcare, and infrastructure, will undoubtedly lead to a stronger, more resilient Enugu," he said.

Nnajiofor urged Ndi Enugu to continue their unwavering support for Governor Mbah’s administration. "The success of the 2025 budget and the realization of its transformative goals will require the collective effort of all stakeholders. We must deepen our understanding of the importance of this budget and strengthen our commitment to supporting the governor in his mission to elevate Enugu State to new heights," he said.

The Special Adviser further emphasized the need for greater ownership of local projects. "Each and every citizen must take ownership of the projects in their communities. By doing so, we can ensure that the benefits of these initiatives reach all corners of the state. It is through this collective effort that we will see real and lasting change," Nnajiofor concluded.

In conclusion, Rt. Hon. Paul Nnajiofor expressed his confidence that the 2025 budget, with its focus on education, infrastructure, healthcare, and economic growth, will have a lasting positive impact on the people of Enugu State, bringing about visible transformation across all sectors. Enugu: Finally, Suspected Killers of Ogbete Market Chairman Arrested

Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested two suspects linked to the killing of Mr. Stephen Aniagu, Chairman of the Ogbete Main Market Traders’ Association (OMMATA).
