BREAKING: Comr. Ogbonna Emmanuel Chisom Emerges Winner of Enugu State Students General Assembly (ESSGA) WORLDWIDE 2024 Election


In a closely-contested election, Comr. Ogbonna Emmanuel Chisom has been declared the President-Elect of the Enugu State Students General Assembly Worldwide (ESSGA), following a successful election process on December 20th, 2024. ESSGA, the apex students' body that oversees the affairs of all students of Enugu origin both in Nigeria and in diaspora, is one of the most influential student unions in the country, and this victory marks a new chapter in the leadership of the organization.

The election, which took place under the strict supervision of the outgoing ESSGA President, Comr. Eze Rita Chidimma, who also doubled as the Electoral Board Committee Chairperson, was a testament to the commitment to fairness and transparency in the electoral process. The election itself was conducted by the ESSGA Worldwide Independent Electoral Commission, chaired by Comr. Arum Simon N., with the support of other key stakeholders and election officers.

The election process began on Monday, December 9th, 2024, with the sale of forms for various positions within the assembly. The sale of forms lasted until Tuesday, December 17th, 2024, after which forms were submitted by candidates on Wednesday, December 18th, 2024. The screening of candidates took place on Thursday, December 19th, 2024, ensuring that only qualified individuals were allowed to contest. The long-anticipated election was held on December 20th, 2024, and was conducted in adherence to the required due process, ensuring a free and fair outcome.

The election process was lauded by stakeholders and students alike for its transparency and organization. The outgoing president, Comr. Eze Rita Chidimma, expressed her satisfaction with the entire process, noting that the election was conducted without any irregularities. "This election was free and fair, and I am proud of the democratic process we have upheld in ESSGA," she said in a statement following the announcement of the results.

Social media platforms were flooded with congratulatory messages from key student stakeholders of Enugu origin, including the Students Union President of the prestigious University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Comr. Enoch Utazi Chukwuebuka, as well as other notable figures such as Comr. Clinton Ogbonna the president Nsukka Youths General Assembly, Comr. Roy Ekwueme, the Speaker Student Union Government University of Nigeria Nsukka Rt.Hon Charles, ESSGA Chapter Presidents ,Faculties and Departmental Presidents of different institutions and their messages celebrating the successful completion of the election and the emergence of new leadership, with particular emphasis on the peaceful conduct of the electoral process.

In addition, the Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Enugu State Chapter, Comr. Cajetan Ali, was also actively involved during the election, offering his support and lending his voice to ensure the credibility of the process.

After a keenly contested race, the following candidates were declared the winners and are hereby confirmed as the newly elected officers of ESSGA WORLDWIDE:

The elected officers were quick to express their gratitude to the students and stakeholders who supported them throughout the election. Comr. Ogbonna Emmanuel Chisom, the newly elected president, in his victory speech, promised to uphold the integrity of ESSGA and work tirelessly for the welfare of Enugu State students worldwide. "This is not just a victory for me but for every student of Enugu origin. I promise to lead with integrity, transparency, and a vision of progress," he said.

Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested two suspects linked to the killing of Mr. Stephen Aniagu, Chairman of the Ogbete Main Market Traders’ Association (OMMATA). A dramatic incident unfolded in the early hours of Sunday morning at a hotel in Agbani, Enugu State, when a woman, popularly known as Madam Gold , attacked a young lady, Ijeoma Nnamani, over an alleged affair with her sugar boy, identified as Micheal Ozoh.
