Gunmen Meet Waterloo In Anambra Community, As Security Squad Raids Armoury, Arrests Gang Leader

The Anambra Security Outfit, Agunechemba Security Squad, yesterday raided a gunmen’s armoury at Enugu-Agidi in the Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.

In a related development, gunmen operating in Umunze Community, Orumba South Local Government Area, are said to have fled their camps following the arrest of kidnap kingpins last week.

According to security operatives, one of the arrested kingpins was allegedly involved in the kidnapping of a woman and her son, both of whom were killed despite a ransom payment of about N10 million.

The fleeing gunmen appear to be the reason behind several shops being closed, as it was gathered that many of these shops were owned by the suspected gunmen.

The security operatives also apprehended one of the gang leaders at Enugu-Agidi who specializes in kidnapping and armed robbery.

According to a bulletin from the office of the Special Adviser to Governor Charles Soludo on Community Security, Prince Kenneth Emeakayi:

“The Agunechemba Security Squad has busted kidnappers' hideout at Enugu-Agidi in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.”

“One of its gang leaders, Mr. Chukwudi Tansi, was arrested at the hideout while other members are still at large.”

“Items recovered from the gang’s armoury include:

  • Two AK47 Rifles,
  • Two pump-action guns,
  • Four locally made pistols,
  • Three packets of cartridges (totaling 101),
  • Four empty magazines of AK47 Rifles,
  • Three cutlasses,
  • Forty-seven rifles,
  • One Baofeng radio,
  • One motorcycle, and
  • Some charms.”

The bulletin further noted that the raid followed viral information from members of the public in the area. The Agunechemba Security Squad promised that they were intensifying efforts to apprehend the fleeing gunmen and bring them to justice soon.
