PHOTO NEWS: Japan Partners with UNOPS to Support Anambra's Flood Response Efforts

In response to the devastating 2022 floods in Anambra, the Government of Japan, through its initiative "Emergency Support to Climate Change," has teamed up with the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) to provide crucial resources aimed at strengthening the state’s capacity to address future climate-related challenges.

As part of this partnership, the Japanese government has donated several key resources to assist the administration of Governor Charles Soludo in improving disaster preparedness and response. The donation includes:

  • 10 vehicles to bolster logistical capacity, ensuring rapid response to emergencies.
  • Advanced equipment to enhance information and communication technology, facilitating better coordination and planning.
  • The installation of two GPS water level detector sensors at strategic riverbank locations, enabling more accurate monitoring and timely responses to flooding and other climate disasters.

This collaborative effort underscores the commitment of both Japan and the United Nations in helping Anambra become more resilient to the impacts of climate change, ensuring that the state is better prepared for future environmental challenges.
