[VIDEO] BLOODBATH IN EDO: Suspected Fulani Herders Attack Two Communities, Kill Many In Alleged Reprisal Attack
Edo State witnessed another wave of bloodshed in the early hours of today as suspected Fulani herders reportedly launched a deadly attack on two communities in Ovia North-East, leaving many dead and several others displaced.
According to reports, the assailants stormed the villages at about 2:00 a.m. while residents, mostly farmers, were asleep. The attackers unleashed terror, killing indiscriminately and razing homes, leaving survivors in shock and mourning.
This latest attack adds to the growing insecurity plaguing Edo State, sparking concerns over the government's response to the escalating violence. Residents have called for urgent intervention, insisting that security policies must go beyond reactionary measures and address the root causes of these attacks.
"The government must be seen to be proactive by setting up security policies and programs to curb this ugly trend," a community leader lamented. "Throwing out suspension letters after lives have been lost is merely cosmetic and does not solve the real problem."
Critics have also pointed to the absence of elected local government chairmen as a significant factor exacerbating the insecurity, stressing the need for stronger governance at the grassroots level.
With tensions still high following the Uromi 16 killings and random arrests of suspected perpetrators, residents of Edo North continue to live in fear amidst looming threats of fresh attacks. The latest onslaught in Ovia has further heightened anxiety across the state, with many believing that only divine intervention can halt the cycle of violence.
Amid growing insecurity, Edo people have been urged to remain vigilant and explore self-help methods to safeguard their lives and property as they await meaningful government action.
