"Police Escort Killed My Sister" Not Bandits" – Taraba Governor Makes Shocking Revelations
Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has publicly revealed the true circumstances surrounding the tragic death of his sister, Atsi Kefas, in 2024, contradicting earlier reports that blamed bandits.
Speaking to journalists on Friday in Jalingo, the state capital, Governor Kefas disclosed that thorough investigations have shown that his sister was shot and killed by a police escort attached to his mother, not by criminal elements on the Wukari-Chinkai Road as initially speculated.
“Life is very precious to me. You can’t just end someone’s life and think God will be happy with you. My younger sister was shot and killed by a police escort who was inside the same bus with her,” he said solemnly.
According to the governor, Atsi was traveling with their mother from Jalingo to Abuja when the incident occurred. He added that medical findings revealed she was shot at close range, and pellets from the weapon were discovered in her body during surgery, which ultimately failed to save her life.
Governor Kefas stressed that the implicated police officer is currently under investigation, and he pledged that justice would be pursued to its logical conclusion.
This revelation counters previous assumptions that the vehicle transporting the governor’s family was attacked by bandits attempting a kidnap operation. It has since raised fresh questions about firearm discipline and accountability within police escorts assigned to VIPs.
During the press briefing, Governor Kefas also addressed the recent Karim-Lamido massacre, where over 50 people were reportedly killed in a violent conflict. He observed a minute of silence in memory of both his sister and the victims of the violence.
He condemned the rising wave of insecurity across parts of Taraba State and urged citizens to embrace peace and unity rather than conflict. The governor announced that his administration would set up a commission of inquiry to investigate the root causes of the Karim-Lamido crisis and recommend strategies for lasting peace.
As of the time of this report, the Taraba State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the governor’s disclosure.
