Q: Little is heard of Professor Jehu Onyekwere Nnaji since after Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah ascended the saddle as the Governor of Enugu State on May 29, 2023. Tell us why you are no longer in public glare?
.
A: I won’t say that I have not been in the public glare but obviously what has happened is that when you contest for an election and the outcome does not favour you, people tend to gravitate towards the eventual winner and in this case as you are aware, the present administration of Dr Peter Mbah has lots of enviable facets which people can beam their searchlights on.Your guess is as good as mine as to why people do that. Since after my participation in the last Gubernatorial Primary on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, I have pitched my tent to support the present administration of Dr Peter Mbah and have been engaging in lots of charity activities as ways of touching lives but some persons might have captured the optics while others may not. In all these developments, whether one is in the public glare or not and whether people notice or not, what is important is using one’s position to improve the lives of others and be a source of upliftment to people that come your way or cross your path.
.
Q: How do you assess the administration of Governor Mbah in the last two years?
.
A: Mbah’s name has become synonymous with service. His current role as Governor of Enugu State is already marked by innovation, compassion, and a unique ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Under his leadership, beneficial reforms are harvested. The governor began to breathe new life into grassroots governance immediately he assumed Office on May 29, 2023. You may ask me to be specific on areas the governor has excelled or not doing well?
I highly commend Mbah’s massive investments in education, agriculture, and the focus on agro value chain, which the Caucus believes would help to attract investors, generate employment, and transform the economy of Enugu State in no distant time.
The state government’s programmes and projects in education, agricultural investments, and road infrastructure, health sector, among others, are being evenly spread across the 260 wards in the state in line with the governor’s inclusive development model.
Look at the ongoing construction of 260 Smart Green Schools, 260 Type 2 Primary Healthcare Centres, the 260 Farm Estates, transport infrastructure, roads, tourism infrastructure, and numerous other foundations being speedily laid are clear signs that the governor’s promise to grow the state’s economy from $4.5 billion to $30 billion in eight years are realizable.
At the grassroots level, the governor’s drive for local investment and foreign direct investment are yielding good results because of the security and infrastructure that have been put in place to make Enugu safe and conducive for business.
Governor Mbah’s aggressive programme of urban renewal across all the zones of Enugu metropolis have turned the entire Enugu metropolis into one massive construction site. Governor Mbah has written his name in gold in Enugu State through his disruptive innovation in governance.
.
Q: What areas would you what the governor to address as he moves into his third year in office ?
.
A: As the Governor moves into the second half of his administration, there will be need to intensify efforts to bolster security by doubling down on his previous efforts. So far the Governor has done well on security but that does not mean that we have zero insecurity. Matters relating to financial crimes and kidnapping for ransom are on the front burner and sophisticated equipment and experienced manpower are need to complement those already in force to enable the security agents to up their game to stymie the menace of marauding criminals
