Breaking: Enugu Police Arrest Six Armed Robbery, Cultism Suspects, Recover Firearms and Hard Drugs
The Enugu State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in its intensified fight against violent crimes and cult-related activities, with the arrest of six male suspects in separate sting operations across the state.
According to a press release issued on Sunday, August 24, 2025, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, operatives of the Command’s Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad stormed hideouts and made significant recoveries of firearms, ammunition, and hard drugs, further tightening the noose on criminal networks.
In one of the operations carried out on August 22 at about 5:00 a.m., four suspects were apprehended: Samuel Chisom Okpubo (23), Steven Agwu (26), Elijah Umah (27), and Ifenre Ifebuche (22). Items recovered from them included a firearm, an expended cartridge, and substances suspected to be methamphetamine, locally known as “Mkpuru-miri.” Investigations revealed their strong links to cult groups, with two identified as members of the Black Axe Confraternity and the others confessing to being members of the Vikings.
Their arrest followed the confession of another suspect, Uzor Okwudili (23), earlier arrested by operatives of the Abakpa Division for armed robbery, cultism, and unlawful possession of a firearm.
In a related operation on August 19, at about 6:30 p.m., police operatives working with members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group stormed Ogor-Affa in Udi Local Government Area and arrested Emehelu Nichodemus a.k.a. “SP Fado” (48). A locally made pistol was recovered from him, and he confessed to being a member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, while commending the operatives for their bravery, reassured residents of the Command’s resolve to rid the state of criminal elements. He urged citizens to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and to promptly report suspicious movements or activities through the Police hotlines: 08032003702, 08086671202, or the State Command-and-Control Centre on 112, 09134666668, and 09134448093.
The arrests come amid growing police clampdowns on cult-related violence in Enugu, sending a strong warning to criminal gangs that there will be no hiding place for lawbreakers in the state.
