HAPPENING NOW: Fubara Joins 24 APC Governors To Receive Tinubu In Imo State

Owerri, the Imo State capital, erupted in a festive atmosphere on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived to commission a series of landmark infrastructure projects executed by the administration of Governor Hope Uzodinma. The high-profile visit drew an unprecedented political gathering, with all 24 All Progressives Congress (APC) governors present, creating what observers described as a mini-APC convention.
In a surprising twist, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, a member of the opposition, was also expected to attend the event, marking a significant show of political presence beyond party lines. Security chiefs, traditional rulers, and delegates from all 36 states were mobilized for the occasion, with Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun and several local government chairmen also in attendance.
Ahead of the visit, the Imo State Government carried out an extensive cleanup across Owerri. Streets were cleared, grasses trimmed, and key venues refurbished to accommodate the influx of dignitaries. Traffic was diverted around newly completed sites, especially at the popular “Control” area, where a long-awaited flyover project is among the key projects set for commissioning. Other projects slated for inauguration include the Owerri–Mbaise Road project and the 10,000-seater Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu Centre.
Residents expressed excitement over the completion of these long-delayed projects. Faith Osuji, a local trader, said the community endured months of hardship during construction but is relieved that the projects are now complete. A commercial driver identified as Chidi commended Governor Uzodinma for improving infrastructure but appealed for stronger security measures in rural areas where insecurity remains a major concern.
Imo State Commissioner for Information, Declan Emelumba, declared that the state was “fully ready” to host the President, insisting that normalcy has returned despite previous “sit-at-home” threats. “The Governor has done a lot to make Imo comfortable. No one in his right senses will work against his own people,” Emelumba stated.
The visit is widely seen as both a test of Governor Uzodinma’s leadership and a significant display of APC’s political strength ahead of future contests in the South-East.
