Nkanu Youths Warn Against Premature Endorsement of Gov. Mbah Ahead of 2027

...... Asks Governor Mbah to leave politics and focus on governance.
Nkanu youths, under the aegis of Nkanu Youths Organization (NYO), have cautioned political leaders and groups from the zone against endorsing Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that the zone also has other capable hands who can handle the office effectively.
The group also frowned at the draconian nature of the administration of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah over the welfare of the citizens, alleging that he has used excessive taxation to unleash mayhem on the people.
Addressing newsmen on Friday in Enugu, during a press conference organized by the organization, the President, Comrade Dika David, called for transparency in the administration of the state’s resources, adding that the Governor has so far not fulfilled the campaign promises he made to Ndi Enugu.
He also stated that the ongoing endorsement of the Governor by groups and stakeholders is antithetical to development as the time is too early for politics.
He further noted that the zone is blessed with leaders such as Chief Everest Nnaji, Chief Uche Nnaji, Chief Samson Chukwu Nnamani, amongst others, who can do well when presented with the opportunity to lead the state; adding that by 2027, they will take their stance on the future of the state.
“We want to make it clear that our position is not confrontational, but a collective responsibility to remind government that politics should serve the people and not the other way round.
“Enugu State cannot attain the vision of a $30 billion GDP by stifling SMEs and reducing the purchasing power of the people through multiple taxation. Ndi Enugu are suffering silently, and the government must show empathy.
“As Nkanu youths, we strongly maintain that endorsements at this stage are premature. What the people need right now is good governance, inclusive policies, and real delivery of democracy dividends.
“Recently, we have witnessed a wave of endorsements across our dear state. While we acknowledge that individuals and groups are free to support leaders of their choice, we, the youths, believe that such endorsements are quite premature. Thus, we risk not attracting the dividends of democracy from the ruling class owing to unnecessary political distractions.
“Competence exists amongst our people:
Nkanu is blessed with men and women of vision, capacity, and integrity. Personalities such as H.E. Barr. Peter Mbah, Hon. Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji (Nwakaibie), Capt. Everest Nnaji (Odengene), Chief Samson Chukwu Nnamani, among many others, are examples that we are not lacking in leadership talent. We believe that when the time comes for 2027 politics, the people will identify and support the right leaders from amongst our Nkanu sons. We urge that the contest be left open to all qualified Nkanu men and women in order to jettison rancor and acrimony within Nkanu land rather than being predetermined by baseless endorsements. Healthy competition will only strengthen democracy and give the people confidence in the process.”
The group further stressed the importance of human capital development, urging the state government to channel more resources into youth empowerment and capacity-building programmes rather than focusing solely on infrastructure.
According to NYO, competence abounds in Nkanu land, with men and women of vision, capacity, and integrity who can equally provide leadership when the time comes. They urged that the 2027 contest should be left open to all qualified aspirants to avoid rancor and acrimony within the zone.
The organization also called on all eligible youths across Enugu State to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise, emphasizing that the power to shape the future lies in their ability to vote and be counted.
“As the next generation of leaders, we are determined to play a decisive role in shaping the Enugu of tomorrow, a responsibility we embrace with total commitment and seriousness.
“Anything done for us without us is completely against us. Youths are not only the leaders of tomorrow ; we are also stakeholders of today.”
