Enugu State has been named Nigeria’s most fiscally sustainable subnational government, topping BudgIT’s 2025 State of States ranking under the leadership of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.

According to the report, Enugu emerged as the state most capable of funding its operating expenses entirely from Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) without dependence on FAAC allocations, a major milestone reflecting the Mbah administration’s commitment to economic transformation and financial autonomy.
