Tragedy struck in Mamelodi East, Tshwane, South Africa, as two young cousins, Tshiamo Moramaga (22) and Baleseng Moramaga (21), were found dead with gunshot wounds to their heads on Sompisi Street, Extension 17, early Sunday morning.

The lifeless bodies of the two young women were discovered by residents around 6:15 a.m., prompting a swift response from officers of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Mamelodi East Division, who have since launched a double murder investigation.

According to police spokesperson Captain Johan van Dyk, the victims were found dressed alike, both wearing white skirts and black shirts, suggesting that they had been together shortly before the attack. Authorities are still trying to determine the motive for the killings, which remain shrouded in mystery.

Family members of the deceased have been left devastated by the horrific incident. Itumeleng Moramaga, mother of Tshiamo, expressed her heartbreak, saying, “I’m so hurt. I’m shattered because she was the only daughter I had. I’m now left with two sons.”

Neighbors reportedly heard arguments and gunshots around 4:00 a.m. on the night of the incident, heightening suspicions that the attack may have been premeditated.

A message found on Baleseng’s phone revealed that the two cousins had been communicating shortly before the shooting, but Tshiamo’s phone was missing, possibly stolen by the assailants.

The South African Police Service has appealed to members of the public to come forward with any information that may assist in tracking down those responsible for the cold-blooded killings.

As investigations continue, the community of Mamelodi East remains gripped by fear and sorrow, mourning the untimely deaths of the two young women whose lives were cut short by senseless violence.
