In a bold move to transform agriculture into the backbone of Enugu’s economy, Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah on Saturday announced the upgrade of the Enugu State Polytechnic, Iwollo, to a University of Agriculture , with an additional campus to be sited in Uzouwani Local Government Area. The governor made the declaration at Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, during the official flag-off of the free distribution of farm inputs to over 40,000 farmers out of the more than 60,000 already registered in the state.   The Enugu State Government has commenced the payment of insurance premium for farmers in the state to cushion the effects of pest, crop diseases and climate change on farmlands. The state's Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro-Industralisation, Mr Patrick Ubru, disclosed this on Friday in Enugu. Ubru said this at the sidelines of the one-day South East Zonal Consultative Forum for the Review of National Gender Policy in Agriculture for Nigeria and it's Strategic Plan of Action  (2025 - 2030). The commissioner, who did not disclosed the amount involved and number of benefiting farmers, said that "with the unpredictability of nature and climatic condition, insurance is very important." The Enugu State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in its intensified fight against violent crimes and cult-related activities, with the arrest of six male suspects in separate sting operations across the state.
