The Enugu State Police Command has officially stopped the proposed New Yam Festival (Iri-Ji) in Mburubu Ancient Kingdom until further notice, citing that it is capable of breaching public peace and order. In an official communication dated 31st October 2025 and addressed to the Council of Mburubu Cabinet High Chiefs and Chijioke Obueze & Co., Legal Practitioners and Solicitors, the Command, after extensive consultations with His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Enugu State, directed that the planned New Yam (Iri-Ji) by both contending parties be put on hold until further notice.   Tragedy struck in Mamelodi East , Tshwane, South Africa, as two young cousins, Tshiamo Moramaga (22) and Baleseng Moramaga (21) , were found dead with gunshot wounds to their heads on Sompisi Street, Extension 17 , early Sunday morning. The lifeless bodies of the two young women were discovered by residents around 6:15 a.m. , prompting a swift response from officers of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Mamelodi East Division , who have since launched a double murder investigation .
